About AutoRay
AutoRay is an independent auto insurance comparison and research site. We analyze rates, coverage options, and insurer performance across all 50 states to help drivers make informed decisions about their coverage.
Our Mission
Auto insurance is one of the largest recurring expenses most Americans face, yet most people have no idea whether they're overpaying or underinsured. Rate differences between companies for the same driver can exceed $1,500 per year — and those gaps change constantly as insurers adjust their pricing models.
We exist to make that information accessible. Every recommendation on this site is based on publicly available data — rate filings with state insurance departments, financial strength ratings from AM Best, customer satisfaction surveys from J.D. Power, and direct policy comparisons. We don't accept paid placements in our editorial rankings.
What We Cover
- State-by-state rate guides — Minimum coverage requirements, average premiums, and top-rated insurers for each state, updated quarterly
- Company comparisons — Head-to-head breakdowns of major insurers on price, coverage breadth, claims experience, and financial stability
- Driver-specific guides — Tailored recommendations for young drivers, seniors, high-risk drivers, military families, and other profiles with distinct rate considerations
- Coverage explainers — Plain-language guides to coverage types, policy structures, and insurance concepts that affect your rates
Our Research Process
Every article on AutoRay follows a structured research process:
- Data collection — We pull rate filings from state insurance departments, financial strength ratings from AM Best, and customer satisfaction data from J.D. Power and NAIC complaint ratios
- Competitive analysis — We compare at least 5 major insurers per state on price, coverage options, discounts, digital experience, and claims handling
- Fact verification — All rate ranges, coverage requirements, and regulatory details are verified against primary sources (state DOI websites, insurer rate filings, statutory minimums)
- Publication and updates — Articles are reviewed quarterly and updated when rate changes, regulatory shifts, or market conditions warrant it

How We Make Money
AutoRay earns revenue through affiliate partnerships with insurance companies and quote comparison services. When you click a link on our site and request a quote or purchase a policy, we may receive a commission at no additional cost to you.
These partnerships never influence our editorial rankings or recommendations. Our research and ratings are produced independently — an insurer's affiliate relationship with us does not affect its score, ranking, or inclusion in our guides. We recommend companies we don't have affiliate relationships with when the data supports it.
For more details, see our affiliate disclosure.
Editorial Standards
All content on AutoRay is governed by our editorial policy, which requires:
- Recommendations based on verifiable data, not sponsored placement
- Clear separation between editorial content and advertising
- Transparent disclosure of affiliate relationships
- Regular content audits and updates
- Corrections published promptly when errors are identified
